The founder of Artesanos is Gerardo Pérez. The company was established in Pinoso, a town in the southeast of Spain. Pinoso has long been widely known throughout Europe as a traditional production area for moccasin shoes and boots.

Since 1978, Gerardo worked at a local shoe company in Pinoso known for its unique moccasin craftsmanship. He and his friend Pepe decided to expand a chain of factories that possessed a special technique only they had—something other factories at the time could not replicate. They continued their efforts until the original company closed after six years.

In 1984, they launched a new company called "Rodri Shoes," the predecessor of today’s business. They manufactured shoes using artisanal methods and sold them directly to small shops across Spain. Unfortunately, in 2012, Gerardo passed away due to illness.

In 2013, Gerardo’s third son, Raúl Pérez—together with his eldest brother—decided to take over their father's company. Raúl had grown up watching his father work and was already in charge of the atelier when he stepped in.

In 2015, Raúl realized that his true passion lay in footwear. It was a passion for handmade shoes that Gerardo had instilled in him over the years.

Today, Artesanos has expanded both within and beyond Spain, producing footwear for globally renowned Spanish shoe brands and original shoes for famous select shops. Although most factories have switched to machine stitching, drastically reducing traditional craftsmanship, Artesanos—true to its name, meaning "artisans"—continues to specialize in beautifully hand-stitched moccasin construction, radiating the warmth of handmade work.

In recent years, they have also begun production in Asia, aiming to carry on these artisanal spirits.
